Nadia Comaneci, (born November 12 1961 Gheorghe Gheorghiu Dej, (presently OnestiGheorghe Gheorghiu-Dej [now Onesti Romania) Romanian gymnast who was the first gymnast to be awarded a perfect score of 10 during the Olympic competition. Bela Karalyi came across Comaneci at the age of six. She would later become Romania's gymnastics coach. Her first competitive event was the national junior championships which she finished 13th in the year 1969. In 1970, Comaneci won. Her first ever international contest in 1972, she came out on top having won three golds. In her very first competition at a senior level Lyudmila Turkishcheva, a Russian athlete, won five gold medals as well with one silver. The first female to complete a reverse double salo on the bar with a parallel surface when she won the American Cup, New York City 1976. Carol Marie Wayne born 6 September 1942 in Chicago Illinois US. Carol began her career in entertainment during her teenage years. When she was a child she was an ice skater with Nina Wayne in the travelling entertainment show Ice Capades. They featured staged ice skating performances.
