Julia Fiona Roberts was born in Atlanta on the 28th of October 1967 and was the child of Betty Lou Bredemus and Walter Grady Roberts. She is the fourth Roberts generation that has lived in Atlanta that began with her grandfather who was a farmer, John Pendleton Roberts. Her father was keen interest from a young age in theater. As an undergraduate at Emory University, he performed in a variety of productions in Atlanta. While in Biloxi, Mississippi he was played as a soldier in a production with Betty Lou Bredemus. The couple got married in 1955 and their first child Eric Anthony was born in 1956. Walter was a student at Tulane University, New Orleans Louisiana. In the year 1957, they had a break from the military and Walter started his education at Tulane University. In 1960, the couple moved to Decatur Georgia where Walter began working at Atlanta's Academy Theater and the Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio. Walter along with Betty Lou started production in 1964 on the local Saturday morning children's show on television called Bum Bum and His Buddies that they funded by themselves. They established an Actors and Writers Workshop in that same year. It was in operation for six years. In 1965, they welcomed two children to the family: Lelisa Billingsley along with Julia Billingsley.
